Celtic news: Postecoglou knows he’s lying after Jota and Cameron Carter-Vickers transfer latest – pundit

Alan Hutton has insisted Jota and Cameron Carter-Vickers will be weighing up their futures at Celtic despite Ange Postecoglou’s claim to the contrary.

The former Scotland international, speaking exclusively to Football Insider, admitted both loan stars would want the “security of a contract” after their temporary spells at Parkhead.

As quoted by the Scotsman (8 April), Postecoglou claimed neither Carter-Vickers, 24, nor Jota, 23, would be thinking beyond the end of the season.

He went on to reveal chief executive Michael Nicholson is in talks over potential permanent deals for the Tottenham and Benfica loanees.

However, Hutton insisted the duo would very much be thinking about the future, with rival interest touted.

He suggested Postecoglou would be well aware of this despite his comments.

Asked if he thought the Celtic boss would think differently behind closed doors, Hutton told Football Insider’s Russell Edge: “Of course he will. You have to say the right things when you’re talking to the press and that sort of thing.

“Carter-Vickers and Jota will be saying the same things: ‘I love being here. I’ve loved my time here. I’m just concentrating on the next game.’

“That’s all footballers are programmed to say, the same stuff in interviews. That’s how it goes, but they’ll want their futures tied up as soon as possible. Whether it be Celtic or whether it be somebody else, somewhere else.

“They’ve had amazing seasons. Carter-Vickers has come up and made such a big difference, as has Jota. There’ll be other suitors watching from afar, I would have thought.

“But they’ll want a future sorted as soon as possible. Whether that be towards the end of the season, we’ll find out. Any player wants that security of having a contract.”
