Celtic player ratings v Motherwell: Teenage star is sensational

COMMENT by Amir Mir

Celtic came from two goals down to beat Motherwell 4-3 at Fir Park on Saturday afternoon to extend their lead at the top of the Scottish Premiership to 11 points.

Football Insider analyses the player performances.

Craig Gordon 5 – Will be disappointed to be chipped and caught off his line for the opening goal. Kolo Toure may have been at fault for not heading the ball away, but Gordon should have read the play a lot quicker.

Mikael Lustig 5 – Failed to impact the game and the right-back was particularly quiet in the first half.

Jozo Simunovic 4 – He was not at fault for the home side opening the scoring, but he failed to show leadership, nor calmness at the back as Rodgers side conceded three goals.

Kolo Toure 2 – His first start for the club since mid-October and the former Premier League player produced a shocking first half display. He failed to head away a simple ball over the top, which led to Louis Moult opening the scoring after two minutes. Toure then failed to read the flight of the cross for the second goal of the game.

Emilio Izaguirre 3 – Had to be substituted before the half hour mark after Chris Cadden had bullied him on Motherwell’s right-hand side. The left-back could not handle his strength as he was constantly allowing crosses into the box.

Stuart Armstrong 6 – He was bullied off the ball for Motherwell’s second, but he linked up well with substitute Callum McGregor for Celtic’s first goal. Armstrong then provided a delicious cross for the fourth goal of the game. The 24-year-old was in the thick of the action once again when he converted Patrick Robert’s magnificent through ball.

Scott Brown 6 – Showed fight and determination in the middle of the park. It was a typical performance from the Scotland international and those qualities rubbed off on his teammates who produced a stunning fightback after the break.

Patrick Roberts 8 – The on-loan Manchester City star was the best player on the field for the second half and was key to the Glasgow club fighting back from two goals down. He nodded in Armstrong’s cross for the fourth goal of the game, before producing the best pass of the game to make it 3-3. The teenager was sensational.

Tomas Rogic 7 – The Australian international scored a magnificent winner which saw the Glasgow club come from two goals down to win 4-3. He was very effective for the away side in the second half and he was rewarded with the winner late on.

James Forrest 6 – Failed to inspire his team in the first half, but was on the ball in the attacking third a lot more after the interval break.

Moussa Dembele 5 – A very poor first half display from the former Fulham, but overall his finishing let him down. Had a very quiet game, despite his side scoring four goals.

Callum McGregor – 7

Nir Britton – Came on at stoppage time.

Cristian Gamboa – Came on at stoppage time.
