Celtic player ratings in win v Rangers: Rodgers favourite is 8/10
By Matt Farr
Football Insider rates the Celtic players during their 2-0 Scottish Cup semi final win over Rangers at Hampden on Sunday.
Craig Gordon 7 – Rarely troubled by Rangers. But saved well to deny Miller when it mattered. Waghorn could have tested him more.
Mikael Lustig 6 – Triggered a fine attacking move for McGregor’s opener with a fantastic long-ball. Had a few testing moments at the back, but came through unscathed.
Jozo Simunovic 6 – Stood strong and refused to be bullied by Rangers’ attackers.
Dedryck Boyata 7 – Kept Joe Garner in his pocket. Dominant in the air and up for the fight.
Kieran Tierney 7 – Gave Waghorn and McKay little joy down Celtic’s left-hand side. A typically pleasing defensive effort.
Scott Brown 7 – Had the better of Rangers’ midfield throughout. Intercepted the ball well to limit their opportunities.
Stuart Armstrong 6 – Arguably the least effective of Celtic’s midfield trio, but by no means a poor display. Set about his work quietly and efficiently.
Callum McGregor 7 – Superb composed finish to open the scoring. Beat Halliday to every ball. An impressive display.
Scott Sinclair 6 – Beat Foderingham from the penalty spot. A regular threat with his direct running and pace.
Patrick Roberts 8 – Posed numerous problems for the Rangers defence, with his running, skill and final product. He ran the show, which is why he is one of Brendan Rodgers’ favourites.
Mousa Dembele 6 – Held up the ball well, but saw his afternoon cut abruptly short with an injury.
Subs:
Leigh Griffiths 7 (for Dembele 34) – Burst out the blocks with energy and hunger. Won a deserved penalty.
Tom Rogic 6 (for McGregor 75)
James Forrest 6 (for Roberts 82)
