Celtic are set to shatter their transfer record with a deal to sign Odsonne Edouard on a permanent deal, according to Sky Sports News.

Sky sources claim that the Hoops are set to sign the Frenchman for £9million in the next 24 hours, which will smash the previous transfer fee of £6million spent on Chris Sutton and John Hartson.

Sky Sports News released the news on their official Twitter page on Thursday lunchtime:

Edouard joined the Hoops on-loan from PSG last season, and was a success for the club overall, scoring 11 goals including three against Rangers.

Football Insider verdict

£9million is an incredible sum of money to spend, particularly for a Scottish club, but Brendan Rodgers must feel that Odsonne Edouard is worth taking that extra step for. A potential good aspect of the deal is that the Frenchman is only 20-years-old, so the Hoops could sell him on for a profit in a few seasons time if he does as well as the club think he will do. Presumably Edouard will now become the Hoops main striker going forward, as you don’t spend that much money on a player unless he is going to be a regular in the first-team. That can wait though, for now Hoops fans should celebrate the fact that the club is going out of its way to back the Hoops boss. They must believe that with a few additions the Bhoys can make a big impact in the Champions League, and if that means spending more money than ever before then so be it.
