Whilst John McGinn has been the player that has been the subject of plenty of speculation at Hibernian, another player who has been in excellent form for the Edinburgh club is loan signing Jamie Maclaren – and Celtic must look at sealing summer swoop for the prolific forward.
The 24-year-old has been excellent for the Easter Road side since joining from Darmstadt 98 in January, and he has scored eight goals in 15 appearances for Neil Lennon’s side.
Most impressively, five of those goals have came against both sides of the Old Firm, as he has scored winning goals against both Celtic and Rangers, and scored a hat-trick in the 5-5 draw between Hibernian and Rangers.
Scoring goals has been a problem for the Hoops this season, and indeed they ended the season have scored less goals in the league than their great rivals from Ibrox.
With doubts over Moussa Dembele’s future at the club, Maclaren could be worth taking a gamble on as a third choice striker for the Bhoys, especially if Odsonne Edouard makes his deal a permanent one.
With the number of games that the Hoops play there is no doubt that Maclaren would get game time even if he was behind Edouard and Leigh Griffiths in the pecking order, and his eye for goal could be vital, as it would have helped turned some of the Hoops’ draws into wins this season.
A move for the Australian perhaps wouldn’t impress all the Hoops support, but he is a player that’s worth taking a gamble on, to see if he can make that step-up from Hibernian to the Hoops.
