Medical expert: McGregor ‘likely’ to undergo surgery and be out ‘eight weeks’ as Celtic ‘gutted’
Celtic skipper Callum McGregor will likely need surgery to correct a facial injury and could be absent for up to eight weeks.
That is the view of medical expert Ben Dinnery, who runs the Premier Injuries site and has a background in injury and data analysis.
McGregor received lengthy treatment after a collision in the first half of the 2-1 win over Alloa Athletic last Saturday (22 January).

Speaking to Sky Sports yesterday (23 January), Ange Postecoglou said the injury is “not short term” and that he was “gutted” for the 28-year-old.
Dinnery predicts that the midfielder could be set for surgery and up to two months on the sidelines as he recovers.
“All the indications are that it is his nose,” he told Football Insider‘s Adam Williams.
“If that is the case, the likelihood of surgery is strong. If there is bone displacement there, we are talking a six to eight-week period.
“It is hugely painful and it’s not a nice thing to have to deal with for anyone.
“In terms of severity, you’d rather have a nose injury than, say, an eye socket injury. But that isn’t much of a silver lining for the lad.”

McGregor has registered two goals and four assists in 33 outings for Celtic this term.
Liel Abada and Yosuke Iedguchi were also forced off in the Scottish Cup win over Alloa, and top scorer Kyogo Furuhashi remains sidelined.
