Celtic player named in SPFL TOTW
Celtic left-back Kieran Tieney has been named in the SPFL team of the week.
The news was announced by the SPFL Twitter account, which selected the Scotland international for the honour following his performance in the 5-0 Scottish Cup win over Brechin.
Interestingly, Tierney’s position in the team – which is made up of any player in the four leagues in Scotland – is at centre-back, rather than the more familiar left-back role that he plays in at Celtic Park.
The winter break in Dubai looks to have down the 20-year-old the world of good, as he looked fatigued prior to the three weeks off as the number of games he has played this season seemed to catch up with him.
Tierney will no doubt be in action when the Hoops return to domestic action in a Glasgow derby against Partick Thistle at Firhill on Tuesday night.
The Celts go into the match with a healthy eight point lead over Aberdeen at the top of the Scottish Premiership and will be looking to extend the lead before the Dons play Rangers at Ibrox on Wednesday.
Tierney will be looking for his second goal of the season against the Jags following his goal against them in the Hoops’ 2-0 win at Celtic Park in December.
