Celtic’s chase of Nigerian striker Stephen Odey has taken a bizarre new turn with the player now declared as missing, according to a report.
The Hoops’ reported pursuit of the 19-year-old forward has not been without it’s drama with All Nigeria Soccer claiming the teenager would undergo a ‘medical evaluation’ in Glasgow as part of a trial before OwnGoalNigeria stated he’d leave for Rusian side FC Krasnodar this week and that he was unable to move to Scotland due to work permit issues.
However, now OwnGoalNigeria have quoted coach Fidelis IIechukwu as to stating he is unaware of the whereabouts of the young player.
“I’m not aware of his whereabouts, I feel travelling out at this time will not help his career. You have a chance to train with the Super Eagles and maybe make the team, it’s only normal you consider it ahead of a move abroad,” said Ilechukwu, as quoted by OwnGoalNigeria
“Odey travelling out at this time is not the best for his career, if you ask me I think his representatives should have handled his next move better than they did.”
Odey is highly rated in Africa and is currently leading the scoring charts in the Nigeriaa Professional Football League having found the net 14 times for his club.
He is also being considered for a call up to the Nigeria senior team at his young age, but it is now doubtful he will ever don the Celtic shirt after this latest act.
Hoops manager Brendan Rodgers is likely to be looking for up and coming players he can add to his side to help Celtic in the future.
Additionally, he may be looking for an alternative striker to Moussa Dembele and Leigh Griffiths this summer and a youngster could prove the perfect addition.
In other Celtic transfer news, the Hoops are in a serious battle with this Premier League club for defender.
