Celtic suffer injustice as Daizen Maeda footage emerges – expert

Frank McAvennie has suggested Daizen Maeda was unfortunate to be sent off for Celtic last week (24 May).

Speaking exclusively to Football Insider, the former Hoops striker insisted that Maeda was just trying to stop the ball and didn’t deserve to be booked for both challenges.

As shown by the SPFL (25 May), the 25-year-old was sent off after being shown a second yellow card in the Celts- 4-2 defeat to Hibs.

As quoted by the Daily Record (25 May), boss Ange Postecoglou said he would “never criticise” the attacker and insisted he will learn from his mistake.

The Japan international served his ban in the Hoops’ final league game of the season as the club ended their title winning campaign with a 5-0 victory over Aberdeen on Saturday (27 May).

McAvennie suggested Maeda was unlucky to receive both bookings.

I think he is just putting his foot in to stop the ball,” he told Football Insider.

The first booking was the same I do not think he touched the player. It did not look as if he really caught him, especially for the first one. For the second one possibly.

Not every time you kick someone is it a booking, the game has gone soft. He has no intent to go for the player, he is trying to block the ball.

Celtic

Although the league season is over, Celtic still have the Scottish Cup final to compete for next weekend (3 June).

A win against Inverness Caledonian Thistle would see them complete a historic eighth domestic treble.
