Celtic fans hilariously hijack BT Sport poll, name defender as best PL striker

By James Black

Celtic fans have hijacked a poll to name the Premier League’s best striker to say that left-back Kieran Tierney is English football’s best frontman.

After Frank Lampard was quoted by BT Sport as saying Harry Kane was his choice, the broadcaster ran a poll on Twitter to see who fans thought was the leading marksman in the Premier League.

With some of the world’s leading strikers plying their trade south of the border, fans were spoiled for choice as BT Sport’s poll garnered over 22,000 votes but Alvaro Morata, Romelu Lukaku, Sergio Aguero and Harry Kane were no match for the Isle of Man-born Scotland international.

Before long though, Celtic fans had jumped on it and bombarded BT Sport with write-in nominations for the 20-year-old left-back.

Tierney has made 91 appearances for the Hoops since breaking into the first-team squad under former manaer Ronny Deila and has reportedly attracted interest from some of the Premier League’s biggest clubs.

While he isn’t renowned as a goalscorer, Tierney has chipped in with a few goals for Celtic – including a thunderbolt against Kilmarnock earlier this season – but obviously that didn’t stop fans from sending a deluge of Tweets to BT Sport.

The Celtic defender is winning a growing number of fans with his performances for club and country, with Liverpool icon Steven Gerrard the latest to come out and praise his performances, and it’s unlikely to stop any time soon.

Tierney played a key role for the Bhoys in Wednesday night’s 3-0 Champions League win over Anderlecht with the defender’s inch-perfect cross setting up Leigh Griffiths’ opening goal.

A constant threat down the left, he’ll need to brush up in front of goal though is he wants to live up to his new moniker as the Premier League’s best striker.

In other Celtic news, a BBC commentator has brutally mocked Rangers for their inability to handle this Hoops ace in the Old Firm clash.
