Celtic’s ‘incredible’ Kieran Tierney business wows after Arsenal beat Real Madrid
Arsenal’s 3-0 triumph over Real Madrid has made Celtic’s deal to bring Kieran Tierney back even more impressive, Tam McManus has said.
The Scotland international is proving his versatility to Mikel Arteta since returning from injury following an extended period on the sidelines in the early stages of the season.
Tierney sustained a significant hamstring injury during Scotland’s 1-1 draw with Switzerland at Euro 2024 in June of last year.
After approximately five months out, the left-back has slowly worked his way back to full fitness, making cameos in defence and more recently at left-wing with the Gunners’ amidst an injury crisis across their frontline.
But he will return to Parkhead in the summer on a free transfer when his contract at Arsenal expires.
Scottish football pundit McManus believes that the defender’s cameo against Real Madrid in the Champions League showed Tierney is looking “fit and sharp” and proves that move an excellent piece of business for the Hoops.

Tierney could return to Celtic a Champions League winner
In a post via X on Tuesday (8 April), the former Hibernian forward said: “Kieran Tierney on for Arsenal and looks fit and sharp.
“Could win the Champions League this season so really is incredible business for Celtic to get him in the summer.”

Many believed that when Tierney joined Arsenal from Celtic in 2019, that he would go onto become the club’s captain and an integral part of the squad.
However, as is often the case in football uncontrollable factors such as injuries can derail players potential.
He has only featured 137 across six seasons at Arsenal and which forced Arteta to look for more reliable alternative options in his system.
Tierney overall stats for Arsenal |
Games – 137 |
Goals – 5 |
Assists – 13 |
The arrival of Oleksandr Zinchenko from Manchester City signalled the beginning of the end for Tierney’s time at the club, with him unable to fulfil the inverted left-back role which has served Arteta so well.
The Ukranian himself has since fallen down the pecking order at the Emirates as further reinforcements have arrived.
Now with Greg Taylor set to depart Celtic, and linked to a sensation move across Glasgow to Rangers, a return to Parkhead off the back of a potential Champions League triumph with the Gunners might just be on the cars for Tierney.
