Championship assist master reportedly on Newcastle radar drops big hint over future
By Matt Farr
Brentford midfielder Alan Judge has hinted at an extended stay with the Championship club.
The 28-year-old is out of contract at the end of the season, and was reportedly on the radar of Championship rivals Newcastle.
Sky Sports had claimed that Newcastle were interested in signing the midfielder during the January transfer window, but Judge has hinted that he could sign a new deal with Brentford before the end of the season.
The Championship assist master has yet to feature for Brentford this season, having sustained a double fracture nearly a year ago, but he has been back in non-contact training with the club for the past few weeks.
He was a key figure at Griffin Park last season, scoring 14 goals and supplying 12 assists, on the back of 15 assists the season before in 37 games, a prolific return that Rafa Benitez wanted to add to his Newcastle promotion bid this term.

But Judge has dropped a huge hint over his long term future by admitting to the Irish Times that Brentford was the ‘right place to be.’
He said: “I’ll find out what’s going to happen in the next week or so. I’ll make a decision, but Brentford to me, at this moment in time, feels like the right place to be.
“They’ve been good to me and I feel that when I’ve been playing I’ve been good for them, so we fit now and leaving when my last game was the one where I broke my leg never felt completely right.
“Hopefully you’ll see a bit of news in the next few days.”
Benitez is still expected to strengthen his midfield options in the summer, but given their potential return to the Premier League, it remains to be seen if he will consider re-igniting his interest in Judge.
The Republic of Ireland international is a proven Championship performer, but has never managed a single appearance in the Premier League, despite starting his career in the division with Blackburn.
Recent reports, however, suggest that Benitez and Newcastle will be aiming much higher if they book their return to the top flight, with a £15million move for Swansea star Gylfi Sigurdsson a possibility.
