Hull City manager Nigel Adkins has confirmed that reported Rangers target Allan McGregor has received multiple contract offers – and admitted the former Gers keeper has to get the “best deal for him.”

According to the Daily Record, the Light Blues want to bring the Scotland international back to Ibrox six years after he left the club and Adkins revealed that the goalkeeper is already “on a Bosman effectively.”

McGregor has been one of Hull’s top performers this season – and Adkins admitted he felt sorry for back-up David Marshall as McGregor has been “outstanding” this season.

“We’ve spoken with Allan and he’s been offered contracts but it has to be right,” Adkins said, as quoted by the Daily Record.

“He’s on a Bosman effectively and he has to get the best deal for him. We’ll see how the business side is dealt with. As a character and a goalkeeper, I can’t speak highly enough of him.

“He’s been outstanding this season. We’ve got an outstanding goalkeeper in David Marshall as well. He can count himself very unfortunate.”

It seems like this one could be close to a done deal and while McGregor is still a good goalkeeper there are still some major issues over the nature of his departure in 2012. After walking out on the club and costing them any sort of transfer fee – at a time they needed it most – some fans still haven’t forgiven McGregor and the others who ripped their contracts up in favour of lucrative deals elsewhere. McGregor will have some questions to answer over his exit and will need to have some good answers ready if he is to win over those unhappy. If McGregor does sign then Jak Alnwick or Wes Foderingham will need to be moved in otherwise the Light Blues will end up with a ridiculously bloated squad featuring three senior goalkeepers and another four aged between 18 and 21 on the fringes of the first-team squad. If McGregor is still as good as he was last time around he could be a really important player for the Gers.
