Sheffield Wednesday to blow rivals out of water with £8m-plus-add-ons striker bid - report
By Dominic Toner
Sheffield Wednesday are prepared to move for striker Jordan Rhodes to beat off competition from Aston Villa, according to a report.
The Sun claim that Wednesday manager Carlos Carvalhal is preparing an £8million offer plus extras for the Middlesbrough forward.
It is understood that Villa offered £6million plus £4million in add-ons last week, but Boro are standing firm on their £12million valuation.
The report details that Wednesday have asked to loan Rhodes already in January, but hare now set to join the bidding war with a permanent offer that will blow Championship rivals Villa out of the water.
Villa have shown their interest in Rhodes this January as they look to replace Rudy Gestede, who incidentally moved to Middlesbrough in the current window.

The Midlands giants have struggled in front of goal and that has seriously stalled their promotion challenge, scoring just 28 goals in 28 league matches.
Steve Bruce’s side are currently 13th in the Championship table and nine points adrift of the play-off places.
Rhodes has found himself short of game time at the Riverside this season and has failed to score in any of his six appearances.
The 26-year-old does have a prolific record though in the Championship, scoring 91 goals in 189 appearances during spells with Blacburn, Boro, Ipswich and Huddersfield.
Football Insider verdict:
Villa should improve their bid for Rhodes and secure a deal for the striker ahead of Wednesday. The forward is a proven goalscorer in the Championship and that is something they are sorely missing. He has endured a difficult time at the Riverside and been unable to make an impact in the Premier League, but certainly has the qualities to score in England’s second division. Villa still have a slim hope of reaching the play-off places, but must go on an incredible run until the end of the season. They need a leading striker to guide them there and Rhodes could certainly be that player.
