Brighton hitman Sam Baldock has warned Newcastle that his side will be looking to win the game when the two sides go head-to-head on Tuesday.
The Seagulls are currently one point clear of Newcastle at the top of the Championship, but Baldock insists that they will be keen to extend their lead to four points with a victory.
He told the Daily Star: “We go into every game with a game plan and looking to win and Tuesday will be no different.
“Newcastle have some fantastic players, especially at this level and we are looking forward to pitting our wits against one of the best teams.
“We are on the back of two very good victories in the last two games. We hope we can win the game.”
The two sides have been neck-and-neck for much of the season, and the outcome of Tuesday’s crunch tie could have a defining impact on the Championship title race.
When the league leaders met at St. James’ Park earlier in the season, Newcastle ran out 2-0 winners.
However, Brighton have been a formidable force at the Amex Stadium, having been beaten just once on home soil since the start of the campaign.
Newcastle, meanwhile, boast the best away record in the league, which promises a pulsating encounter.
Both sides have been in excellent form heading into the tie, with Newcastle and Brighton each winning six of their last 10 league outings.
Defeat for either side, however, opens the door to rivals Huddersfield to make up precious ground in the race for automatic promotion.
Huddersfield currently sit third in the league, five points behind Newcastle.
