Charlie Nicholas delivers verdict on Tottenham, claims they panicked one Man City player

By Harvey Byrne

Charlie Nicholas has hailed Tottenham’s victory over Manchester City on Sunday as “the performance of the weekend.”

The two side’s faced at White Hart Lane, which saw Spurs run out 2-0 victors with help from an own goal from Aleksandar Kolarov and a coolly dispatched Dele Alli goal.

Sky Sports pundit Nicholas, who grades each Premier League team’s performance in a weekly feature has placed Tottenham at the top with an “A+” following their win.

“It was the performance of the weekend,” wrote Nicholas in his Sky Sports feature. “Mauricio Pochettino’s side were at it right from the first whistle, they squeezed City and forced them into situations where their defence looked nervous.

“You could see the panic in Aleksandar Kolarov’s face for his own goal. It was a first-class display and must give them even greater belief considering they were missing Harry Kane.”

Further recognition of Tottenham’s victory came from Nicholas after he had named Stoke’s performance in second place, grading it with a much lesser B+ for their 1-1 draw against Manchester United.

Spurs are now sat one point behind Pep Guardiola’s league leaders as they look to improve from their third place finish last season

They face a difficult test against Tony Pulis’ West Brom side after the international break, with the Midlands team sat in ninth and former attacker Nacer Chadli in top form following his summer move.

In other Tottenham news, Jamie Redknapp believes that Spurs are one of the three main title contenders alongside Liverpool and Manchester City.
