Sources: Charlton Athletic agree to re-sign Nottingham Forest star Arter

Charlton Athletic have agreed to re-sign Nottingham Forest star Harry Arter, Football Insider can exclusively reveal.

The League One club have swooped for their academy product 12 years after he left the Valley.

A Charlton source has told Football Insider that the club have agreed to sign Arter, 31, on loan from Forest.

The midfielder has slipped down the pecking order in Chris Hughton’s side and failed to make the matchday squad for their four Championship matches this season.

Arter, whose Forest contract runs until 2023, made one senior appearance during his time at the Valley.

Cafu, Ryan Yates and Jack Colback are all currently well ahead of him in the queue for midfield spots under beleaguered Forest manager Hughton.

He will become Charlton’s ninth signing of the summer and their third addition in midfield.

Arter featured for the under-23 side against Southampton on 23 August and was booked before being substituted on the hour mark.

He has not made a senior appearance since playing two minutes as a substitute against Preston North End in February.

Arter has managed just 14 appearances in total for Forest since signing from Bournemouth last summer.

He joined non-league Woking Town after leaving Charlton in 2009.

The midfielder spent a season there before embarking on a decade-long stretch with Bournemouth.

He was part of the collective which saw the Cherries promoted from League One to the Premier League in that time.

But his last two seasons at the club were spent on loan with Cardiff City and Fulham respectively.
