Chelsea & Brentford ‘could be charged with failing to control their players’
Keith Hackett believes that Chelsea and Brentford could be charged by the Football Association for failing to control their players at full time on Sunday (15 December).
Speaking exclusively to Football Insider, the former PGMOL chief, ex-FIFA, and Premier League referee believes that the “FA will look to see whether in fact there was a mass confrontation” between the players.
Chelsea defeated the Bees 2-1 at Stamford Bridge courtesy of goals from Marc Cucurella and Nicolas Jackson, and it was the Blues left-back who was involved in the post-match antics too.
The Spain international was involved in a confrontation with Brentford’s Kevin Schade after the full-time whistle had blown which led to both sets of players arguing.
Cucurella received a second yellow card for his role in the situation, but both clubs could end up being punished beyond him being sent off.
Chelsea and Brentford could be punished by the FA
Hackett told Football Insider, “The FA will look to see whether in fact there was a mass confrontation because of it.
“They will look closely around it.
“There is that risk that both clubs will be charged with failing to control their players.
“It would be harsh, but that’s the very nature of players coming together.

“The fact that this is at the end of the game and it’s an incident, they may look upon it.
“But both clubs are likely to be facing a charge [for] failing to control their players.”
