What Conte said when asked if Chelsea want to sign Sanchez from Arsenal
Chelsea are reportedly making a late bid to sign Arsenal forward Alexis Sanchez, according to a nreport.
The Telegraph reports that the Blues have made a late entry as they try to add some much-needed firepower to their attack which has failed to register in their last three outings.
Sanchez had been top of Pep Guardiola’s wanted list for some time now, but have now pulled the plug on a move for the 29-year-old, after they were priced out of the deal.
Sanchez has not been able to replicate anything like the form he did in 2016/17, but nevertheless still has nine goals to his name in 26 games.
However, talking in his pre-match press conference, as quoted by Sky Sports transfer blog (13.36), Conte has said, “I do not think so”, when asked if Chelsea were going to sign him.
Football Insider verdict:
There is no way that Sanchez will be staying with Arsenal but the Chilean is known to love living in London, where he can enjoy a largely anonymous private life – something which would be much more difficult in a smaller city such as Manchester. Not only that, but Chelsea are champions and if Conte can prove to the Arsenal man that they have ambitions to continue winning trophies then Chelsea could be the winners of the winger’s signature. Wenger announced at the weekend that an announcement was expected in the next 48-hours regarding Sanchez’s future, which means there is just a matter of hours left. This could be obfuscation by Conte.
