Chelsea confirmed line-up: No first Premier League start for 23-year-old v Bournemouth

By Harry Sykes

Antonio Conte has been forced into making two significant changes to the Chelsea line-up for their 3pm Premier League kick-off at home to Bournemouth.

Both Diego Costa and N’Golo Kante are suspended for the match after picking up their fifth yellow cards of the season against Crystal Palace.

Both players have been in fine form, with Costa currently top of the Premier League goalscoring charts with 13 goals.

It means the manager has been forced to play Willian, Pedro and Eden Hazard in attack, preferring the trio to the 23-year-old Michy Batshuayi who is still waiting for his first Premier League start.

The team news was announced on the official Chelsea Twitter page.

Batshuayi has scored three goals in his 13 appearances for Chelsea this season and would have been hoping to get an opportunity today.

Perhaps even more crucially, Cesc Fabregas comes in for the former Leicester player N’Golo Kante, alongside Nemanja Matic. Kante was pivotal in bringing the Premier League title to Leicester last season and is now top of the league with Chelsea. A coincidence? We could find out today as he sits the match out.

The Chelsea defence is more familiar, with Thibaut Courtois lining up in front of Cesar Azpilicueta, Gary Cahill and David Luiz.

Victor Moses and Marcos Alonso reprise their wing-back positions, Hazard, Pedro and Willian complete the line-up in attack.

Chelsea have enjoyed a fantastic first half of the season, and without European commitments have cruised to the top of the Premier League, six points clear of Liverpool in second and nine ahead of Arsenal in fourth.

They’ll be expected to win today even with Costa and Kante missing, and will keep the pressure on Manchester City and Liverpool who play at tea-time today (City) and tomorrow (Liverpool).
