Chelsea fans slate senior star on Twitter after draw v Burnley

By Matt Farr

Nemanja Matic made a number of costly errors during Chelsea’s 1-1 draw with Burnley on Sunday – and fans on Twitter have slated his performance.

The 28-year-old midfielder gave away the free-kick that led to Robbie Brady’s brilliant equaliser, and made several other careless mistakes before being substituted in the 67th-minute.

Chelsea fans had already taken to Twitter ahead of the game to question the omission of Cesc Fabregas from the starting XI for another week, with many suggesting that Matic should have been axed.

However, his lacklustre performance will have done little to satisfy the growing concern among Chelsea fans, who took to social media once again to slate the Serbia international.

Here is a selection of their messages on Twitter:

Matic has been considered a valuable asset by manager Antonio Conte this season, having started all but one of his 23 Premier League appearances this season.

He has formed a strong midfield partnership with N’Golo Kante, but judging by the criticism from the fans, much of the hard-work is down to the work of summer signing Kante.

Fabregas, meanwhile, who came on to replace Matic in the second-half, has started only five games for Chelsea this season.

The draw sees Chelsea move 10 points clear at the top of the Premier League.
