Chelsea fans stunned by Moises Caicedo after ‘serious injury’ – ‘out for the season’

Chelsea fans were left stunned by Moises Caicedo’s performance amid concerns he had picked up a “serious injury” in the Club World Cup clash with Benfica.

Enzo Maresca’s side ran out 4-1 winners in Charlotte, after Reece James’ strike looked to have won it before Angel Di Maria equalised from the penalty spot in the 95th minute.

The game was then pushed into extra time where Christopher Nkunku, Pedro Neto and Kiernan Dewsbury-Hall found the net to ensure an ultimately comfortable victory.

The Blues have now progressed into the quarter-finals, where they will face Brazilian outfit Palmeiras at Lincoln Financial Field in Philadelphia.

However, it was Caicedo whose performance caught the eye of the watching supporters as he picked up an assist and the Player of the Match award.

That is despite initial concerns that he has suffered an injury in the first half after a strong challenge, as some feared he may even be “out for the season”.

Chelsea weigh up Moises Caicedo sale amid Saudi interest

Earlier this summer, Caicedo had been subject to speculation surrounding his future at Stamford Bridge amid links with a move to the Saudi Pro League.

Former Man United chief scout Mick Brown told Football Insider that Chelsea could accept £100million offers for Caicedo and had not ruled out his exit.

Despite that, former Man City financial adviser Stefan Borson told Football Insider that Caicedo is unlikely to leave Chelsea given the length of his contract and the money involved.

The midfielder remains a crucial part of Maresca’s plans and another dominant Club World Cup performance has proven how important he can be.

That performance has drawn high praise from the crowd, who remained stunned that he had recovered from an injury which would have come as a huge blow.

Taking to social media both during and following the game, Chelsea fans expressed their admiration for the midfielder as one insisted: “I’ve never seen anything like it”.
