Chelsea: Liam Rosenior crunch talks on the cards as Stamford Bridge dressing room ‘unhappy’

Chelsea manager Liam Rosenior’s future at the club could be discussed at the end of the season, according to Keith Wyness.

The former Everton chief executive, speaking exclusively to Football Insider, believes Rosenior already faces a “difficult situation” at Stamford Bridge.

The 41-year-old was viewed as an underwhelming appointment by the Chelsea fanbase, having never once managed before in the Premier League.

The Blues have lost four straight matches in all competitions, a run which has increased scrutiny on Rosenior’s managerial credentials.

Chelsea have a history of sacking managers, and the final seven Premier League games of the season could decide Rosenior’s future in west London.

‘Rumblings’ begin on Liam Rosenior’s Chelsea future

Everton’s former chief Wyness – who served as CEO at Goodison Park between 2004 and 2009 and now runs a football consultancy advising elite clubs – questions whether Rosenior has the “gravitas” to become successful at Chelsea.

Speaking on the new edition of Football Insider‘s Inside Track podcast, Wyness has heard that Rosenior could already be losing the dressing room.

He told Football Insider‘s Inside Track podcast: “The official statement is no, the first review of his activity will be in the summer of 2027.

“He’s going to get a whole other season. However, if there is a real collapse in form over the next few games, and it ends really badly, I think there could well be a discussion about that.

“Already the rumblings have started already and it doesn’t seem as though the dressing room is that happy either. It’s just not a happy place right now.

“I don’t know if Rosenior has got the gravitas to be able to turn that around with some of these players, very skilled players, on big money and long-term contracts.

“It’s a difficult situation. And this is one of those known unknowns, so to speak, that when you start giving players longer contracts, they start to get a bit more settled, and they start to get a bit unhappier when things aren’t going the way they want it to be, and then the club is stuck with that liability rather than just an investment.

“It’s a difficult thing for Rosenior, but hopefully he’ll end up with a decent finish to the season.”

Rosenior’s problems could continue in the summer

Even if Rosenior remains at Stamford Bridge, the former Strasbourg boss faces a tough summer transfer window, with the potential departures of two star players.

Enzo Fernandez appears unsettled at the club, and the 25-year-old could move to Real Madrid, whilst Chelsea could be open to selling Cole Palmer.

Stefan Borson told Football Insider that Chelsea may be open to offers over £100million for Palmer, due to the club’s financial situation.

Chelsea recorded a £262m pre-tax loss in their latest annual accounts, the biggest in Premier League history, making player trading in the summer important.
