Sources: Chelsea ready offer for Tottenham-wanted defender Ronnie Edwards
Chelsea are readying an offer for Peterborough defender Ronnie Edwards after watching him in Saturday’s clash at Derby County, sources have told Football Insider.
The Premier League spenders are looking to beat Tottenham and Crystal Palace to the capture of the 19-year-old centre-back.
Spurs have registered their interest in Edwards after rave reviews from their talent-spotters, while Palace have had a £4million bid knocked back.

Peterborough are holding out for a higher offer for their prize asset ahead of the final days of the summer window.
Chelsea have been the biggest spenders in Europe this summer under the new ownership regime of Todd Boehly.
In addition to their superstar signings, they have also spent heavily on rising stars including midfielder Carney Chukwuemeka and goalkeeper Gabriel Slonina.
Edwards is under contract at London Road until June 2025 after signing a fresh extension in May last year.
The 2022-23 campaign is his third as a first-team regular for the Posh.
Edwards, who has also turned out four times for England’s under-19 side, has six appearances under his belt already this term.
Seven players have left Peterborough on permanent deals since their relegation from the Championship at the end of 2021-22.
Grant McCann’s side are currently fourth in League One after their 2-1 defeat to Derby on Saturday (27 August).

Edwards could become the latest in a long line of players to depart Peterborough for a seven-figure fee in recent years.
The sales of Ivan Toney, Sirki Dembele, Mo Eisa, and Sammi Szmodics have all helped to boost the club’s coffers.
