Injury expert: This is real reason Chelsea starlet Gilmour can't get a game at Norwich

Chelsea starlet Billy Gilmour simply may not be training well enough to warrant a place in Norwich City’s starting XI.

So says injury expert Ben Dinnery, who runs the Premier Injuries site and has a background in medicine and data analysis.

Gilmour, who joined on a season-long loan in July, has not featured in any of the Canaries’ last five league matches.

Chelsea boss Thomas Tuchel recently revealed that he would consider recalling the youngster in January if he is still not in Daniel Farke’s plans.

“I spoke to Daniel and Billy about the situation and we will make the decision in January,” he told Sky Sports on 1 November.

Dinner admitted he was confused by the 20-year-old midfielder’s lack of game-time and revealed how it could affect his fitness in the long term.

“The two clubs will have to make a decision on his future in January,” he told Football Insider correspondent Adam Williams.

“If players aren’t playing regularly in the first-team, you can get deconditioned the longer the season goes on.

“Yes, you can maintain that base level of fitness, but you’re not getting that sharpness that comes with being match fit.

“You only get that through playing regular football, and Billy Gilmour doesn’t get that. He gets minutes for Scotland, however.

But for me, I find it strange. I’ve been scratching my head as to why someone with that quality isn’t part of that team.

“Danie Farke is a stickler for how players’ attitudes and how they train. Is there some frustration there in that regard? That’s a worry.”
