‘Chelsea to complete perfect signing’ – fans wowed by Ornstein’s update

Chelsea fans have urged the club to sign Liam Delap after a fresh update emerged regarding their pursuit of the young striker.

It’s no secret that Chelsea are in the market for a new forward this summer, with several names linked over recent transfer windows.

The lack of a consistent goal threat was evident throughout the season, particularly as Nicolas Jackson struggled for form, managing just one Premier League goal in 2025.

One of the players being strongly considered is Ipswich Town’s Delap.

The Manchester City academy graduate has impressed during his time in the Championship, and his contract includes a £30 million relegation clause but it now seems as if the Blues have taken the driving seat in the race to sign him.

Chelsea set to beat rivals to Liam Delap signing amid £30m clause

David Ornstein of The Athletic revealed on X that clubs pursuing Delap have now been informed that he will not be joining them, with the striker’s “preference” being a move to Chelsea.

Ornstein added that as long as the requirements of his £30m release clause are met, the 22-year-old will make the switch to Stamford Bridge.

Delap has attracted interest from a host of Premier League clubs, with Man United, Everton and Nottingham Forest all registering their intent to sign him.

Newcastle fans even urged the club to sign Delap in as competition for Alexander Isak. However, it now appears that Delap has chosen Chelsea as the ideal destination to lead the line.

The Ipswich striker has netted 12 Premier League goals this season and contributed two assists — outperforming Chelsea’s Nicolas Jackson, who managed 10 league goals in the same period.

Chelsea fans want Liam Delap to lead the line at Stamford Bridge

Despite being linked with several high-profile names, including Hugo Ekitike and Victor Osimhen, the Blues appear to be focusing on options within the Premier League as they look to solve their number-nine dilemma.

Chelsea held the advantage over clubs for Delap’s signing due to their qualification for the Champions League next season.

As for Newcastle, It’s likely that the former Manchester City academy product sees more opportunity for regular minutes at Chelsea, rather than playing a supporting role to Isak.

Blues supporters are already buzzing about the latest update, with one fan posting: “He’s the perfect Chelsea striker. The English Diego Costa.” Another wrote: “I trust Joe Shields and Enzo Maresca. If they want Liam Delap, I want Liam Delap.”
