‘Chelsea’s treatment of players is disgraceful’ – PFA urged to step in after transfer chaos
Chelsea have been slammed for their treatment of defender Aaron Anselmino who was left visibly upset during what proved to be a busy transfer window.
The Blues opted to recall Anselmino from his loan spell at Borussia Dortmund, with footage of his final day in Germany showing the 20-year-old in tears.
Reports have since suggested the defender was unhappy about being recalled although he would be happy to play for Chelsea, before he was then moved to Strasbourg.
Former Man United chief scout Mick Brown told Football Insider that the PFA should look into his treatment, with the debate over treatment of players raging on.
This would not be the first time the PFA has had issues with Chelsea, having previously intervened over issues surrounding Raheem Sterling‘s exclusion from their squad.
Chelsea slammed after Aaron Anselmino treatment
Initially believed to have been recalled on the promise of being part of Chelsea’s plans, Anselmino was sent to Strasbourg after Mamadou Sarr‘s move to Stamford Bridge.
BlueCo’s treatment of players as commodities rather than human beings has raised red flags, while the constant moves between Chelsea and Strasbourg remains a concern.
“Chelsea seem to treat their players as assets,” Brown told Football Insider.
“Their relationship with Strasbourg is such that it’s easy to swap and move things around, players, the managers etc, but you have to realise you’re dealing with human beings.
“I used to argue about it when I was part of the union as a player and as a coach, and it’s something that is still being spoken about now with the PFA.
“There have been changes since I was involved, but treatment of players is still disgraceful at times.
“The players’ point of view should be taken into account just as much as the clubs’.
“When Anselmino was originally loaned out to Dortmund, it was seen as an opportunity to impress and then return to Chelsea as part of the first team.
“By all accounts, he didn’t want to leave Dortmund but did on the idea that he would be going into the Chelsea team, all of a sudden they’ve got somebody else in and he’s gone to Strasbourg as the replacement there instead.

“If it were up to the player, he would still be in Germany, instead he’s been forced to make two moves to England then to France without much say in the matter.
“It appears to be the way things work at Chelsea, it’s similar to before when they had so many players half of them were told to train away from the squad.
“It appears to me that they don’t treat players like human beings, they’re assets, and that’s always going to be a problem.”
How much Chelsea paid to terminate Raheem Sterling’s deal
As previously mentioned, the PFA have been involved with Chelsea in recent months over their treatment of Sterling, who was excluded from their squad for a long period.
Chelsea have since terminated Sterling’s contract, removing his lofty wages from their bill and allowing him to seek a new club outside of the window.
Football finance expert Stefan Borson told Football Insider that Chelsea may have paid £20-25million as part of a settlement agreement with the 31-year-old.

The winger, who spent last season on loan at Arsenal, earned around £325,000 a week during his time at Stamford Bridge, where his contract was due to run until June 2027.
The former England international has been linked with a whole host of clubs in recent days, including the likes of Fulham and West Ham as he eyes his next move.
