'Punt him in January' - Chris Sutton urges Celtic to flog first-team player
BT Sport pundit Chris Sutton believes that Celtic should flog struggling midfielder Stuart Armstrong in the January transfer window.
Armstrong was one of Celtic’s best players last season, scoring 17 goals and deservedly being nominated for Scotland’s player of the year.
This season has been a completely different story though, as perhaps influenced by a protracted contract dispute in the summer the first-team player has gone off the boil completely, scoring only two goals in the process.
His poor performances reached a new low against Anderlecht when he was substituted at half-time after a particularly insipid performance.
While appearing on a BT Sports Facebook live chat, Sutton didn’t hold back in his criticism of the 25-year-old.
“Stuart Armstrong has been a massive disappointment”, he said. “If I was Celtic I would punt him in January.”

Armstrong was linked with a move to the English Premier League in the summer as his contract dispute dragged on, with Southampton, West Brom and Brighton all quoted with an interest.
He signed a new deal but as it only lasts until 2019 the thought is that the player doesn’t see his long-term future in Glasgow.
The player’s form of last season was rewarded with a Scotland call-up, and he is now a regular for the national side despite his indifferent club form.
