Chris Sutton delivers blunt Twitter verdict on Celtic win against Partick
Chris Sutton believes that Celtic were not at their best against Partick in their 2-0 win at Parkhead on Wednesday night, but admits that it was important to just pick up the three points.
Brendan Rodgers’ side moved five points clear at the top of the Scottish Premiership thanks to goals in each half from Stuart Armstrong and Kieran Tierney.
The Hoops needed a response after losing their 69-game unbeaten domestic run on Sunday when they were thrashed 4-0 by Hearts at Tynecastle, and that is exactly what they did against Partick, who stay rooted to the bottom of the table.
Sutton gave a blunt verdict to Celtic’s win on his personal Twitter account instantly after the game.
“Not vintage Celtic but job done,” he said. “Responded from Hearts with 3 big points.”
Celtic have not been anywhere near the form that they showed last season and have already dropped more points in the Scottish Premiership than they did in the entire 2016/17 campaign.
However they have now made sure that there is a healthy cushion between them and Derek McInnes’ Aberdeen by winning their game in hand against the Jags.
Next up for Rodgers’ men is a mammoth clash with the Dons on Saturday in Glasgow.
That follows clashes against Dundee and bitter rivals Rangers before heading into the January winter break.
In other Celtic news, the Hoops have been installed as favourites to sign James McClean in January.
