Chris Sutton delivers scathing attack on Rangers senior player, states why he doesn't trust him

By Amir Mir

Chris Sutton has issued a scathing attack on Rangers striker Joe Garner by stating he doesn’t trust the club’s senior player.

Former Celtic striker Sutton ripped into the 28-year-old by saying he has “more bookings than goals” this season.

Garner is set to miss the Old Firm clash on Sunday afternoon because he is suspended but he did feature for his side during their 6-0 win at Hamilton in the Scottish Cup last Saturday.

During that encounter, he netted a hat-trick after coming off the bench, but he was lucky to escape with a yellow card after a kung-fu like tackle on Accies player Dougie Imrie.

Former Premier League winner Sutton blasted the player and believes his side are lucky that he won’t be playing at the weekend.

“I tell what is a result, Joe Garner not starting or suspended [for the Old Firm Clash],” Sutton told BT Sport ahead of Dundee United against Hibernian in the Scottish Championship on Friday night.

“I think that is a right result because you just cannot trust him. Ludicrous challenge last week. He will never stay on the pitch. He’s got more bookings than goals. Can you trust him to stay on the pitch?”

Garner joined Rangers from Championship side Preston North End for a fee of £1.5million with Mark Warburton signing up the experienced player.

During his time at Ibrox, he has played 27 games in all competitions, scoring seven goals, but he has picked up one more booking during that time.

Furthermore, in 22 matches in the Scottish Premiership, he has scored four goals and been booked on six occasions.

Nonetheless, despite the number of yellow cards he has picked up during his time in Scotland, Garner has never been sent off during a match.

In other Rangers news, Chris Sutton has responded to Ally McCoist after he made these comments about this Celtic ace.
