Chris Sutton delivers Twitter verdict as Arsenal end Lincoln dream

By Will Butcher

Chris Sutton believes Arsenal’s Premier League pedigree shone through in the end as the Gunners defeated Lincoln City by five goals to nil.

National League leaders Lincoln were the first non-league side to reach the last eight of the FA Cup in over a century, but goals from Theo Walcott, Olivier Giroud, Alexis Sanchez, Aaron Ramsey and an own goal from Luke Waterfall saw Arsenal progress.

Sutton claimed that the Gunners’ “class told” over the entire 90 minutes on his personal Twitter account, but believes Lincoln’s efforts are the “biggest story” in this year’s competition.

Lincoln held the Gunners for almost the whole 45 minutes, until England international Walcott found the back of the net in first-half injury time.

With Lincoln struggling to get out of their own half, Arsenal’s confidence grew and they secured an emphatic victory in what could have been a potential FA Cup banana skin.

The Gunners now join Man City in the last four of the competition, with Tottenham to play Millwall on Sunday and Chelsea to face Man United on Monday night.

Arsenal, who were demolished 10-2 on aggregate in the Champions League by Bayern Munich in the week, will be delighted to get back to winning ways after a turbulent few weeks.

Arsene Wenger’s side next face West Brom in the Premier League at the Hawthorns in a week’s time, with a win potentially enough to see them climb back into the top four.
