Chris Sutton delivers verdict on Rangers display against St. Johnstone
By Harvey Byrne
Chris Sutton told supporters on Twitter that Rangers’ 1-1 draw with St Johnstone was the fair result, describing the Gers as “toothless” in the second half.
The Ibrox side were held to a stalemate in the Premiership on Wednesday evening with a 23rd minute goal from Barrie McKay cancelled out by a Steve MacLean strike just five minutes later.
The draw means that Rangers are now 16 points adrift of top of the league Celtic, while the Hoops also boast a game in hand.
This gave Sutton great delight, who shared on his personal Twitter account that the gap got bigger at the top following Celtic’s 2-0 victory over Ross County.
It was a bad result for Mark Warburton’s side, who are now preparing to face their fierce Glaswegian rivals at Ibrox on New Years Eve.
It is highly unlikely that Rangers can put a stop to Celtic claiming their sixth consecutive title, but they will be keen to ensure they don’t fall to a third defeat in the Old Firm Derby in this campaign.
The Bhoys ran out an emphatic 5-1 victory over the Gers in the Premiership in September, while they also won in the League Cup semi-final with a much tighter 1-0.
Rangers will have the added incentive of looking to end Celtic’s unbeaten league run, but Brendan Rodgers’ side are looking a class above the rest of Scotland’s top flight this season.
In other Rangers news, fans reacted on Twitter to forward Joe Garner’s display against St. Johnstone.
