Chris Sutton gives Twitter verdict on Liverpool win v Bayern Munich

By Danny Wright

Former England international Chris Sutton has hailed Liverpool for their phenomenal performance in the 3-0 win over Bayern Munich on Tuesday night.

The Reds stormed to victory in the Audi Cup semi-final on the Bundesliga giants’ home turf thanks to goals from Sadio Mane, Mohamed Salah and Daniel Sturridge.

However Liverpool fans were left to sweat over the fitness of Sturridge after he was substituted off just moments after finding the net due to a thigh injury.

The Reds have since announced that the striker will only miss Wednesday’s Audi Cup final clash with Atletico Madrid and that he should be good to feature when the Premier League season kicks off next week.

Sutton believes that the display was typical of Sturridge, who is widely known to have his problems with injuries.

“Liverpool sensational tonight. Thumped Bayern 3-0. Sturridge summed up with a brilliant goal and thigh injury in the process,” said the ex-Celtic and Chelsea forward on his personal Twitter account on Tuesday night.

Liverpool are now gearing up to face Atletico after they managed to beat Napoli 2-1 on Tuesday night thanks to goals from Reds icon Fernando Torres and Luciano Vietto saw Diego Simeone’s side come from behind after Jose Callejon opened the scoring.

Jurgen Klopp’s side begin their Premier League season a week on Saturday when they travel to Vicarage Road to face Watford.

In other Liverpool news, John Arne Riise has challenged this Reds under-performer to prove him wrong.
