Chris Sutton has already told West Ham why they must sign ‘accomplished’ striker who has ‘outgrown’ his club
Nuno Espirito Santo should be listening to those around him as West Ham search for a striker solution in the January transfer window.
Niclas appears set to depart the London Stadium, leaving Callum Wilson as the only experienced centre-forward at the club, albeit Jarrod Bowen can be deployed out of position.
Only Nottingham Forest and Wolves have scored fewer goals than the Hammers in the Premier League this season, highlighting just how dire their attacking problems are.
West Ham are at serious risk of being relegated this season, possibly alongside Burnley, Leeds United or Forest, so a solid January transfer window is absolutely vital next month.

West Ham set their sights on Josh Sargent
Football Insider understands that West Ham are interested in Norwich City’s Josh Sargent, putting £20million aside for a new striker, having sent scouts to watch the forward this season.
Mick Brown told Football Insider that Nuno’s team could accelerate a move for Sargent, though the 25-year-old has been sidelined since the beginning of December.
He is expected to return to the pitch soon, allowing him time to return to full fitness before a potential move to the Premier League, and despite a short-term injury, he still has six league goals this season.
The American international’s performances have gone under the radar, somewhat, with everything going on at Carrow Road, but Chris Sutton‘s glowing reviews should be enough for the Irons to strike a deal.
Chris Sutton has already tipped Sargent for a Premier League move
Speaking to Pink Un (April 2025), Sutton said: “He has now outgrown the club as a player, and everybody can see that. It’s time for everyone involved—club, fans, and player—to shake hands and for him to leave amicably.
“Sargent has all the attributes to show that he can be a really accomplished Premier League striker or in any top league across Europe. Now is the time for him to strike.”
While the striker’s last campaign in the Premier League ended with him notching two goals and an assist, he has improved immensely since the 2021-22 campaign, reaching 55 goals for the Canaries.
He smashed in 16 and 15 goals in back-to-back seasons, with ten goal contributions now next to his name across all competitions this term, and likely more to come if he stays.
Nuno will be desperate for more reinforcements once the window opens, given that his side remain five points adrift of safety with 21 games left to play.
