Chris Sutton has questioned the ambition on Twitter of Manchester City’s Jason Denayer after he snubbed Celtic to join Galatasaray.

Times correspondent Paul Hirst claimed on his personal Twitter account on Wednesday evening that the Hoops were keen on Denayer, but he is on his way to Turkey for a medical following an agreement with the 20-time title winners.

Ex-Hoops striker Sutton responded to the reported snub from the ex-Celtic loanee by pointing out that Celtic can offer the prestige and glamour of the Champions League group stages, which Galatasaray cannot.

But Celtic appear to have lost out on bringing the 22-year-old centre-back back to Parkhead for a second spell.

Denayer spent the 2014-15 campaign at Parkhead, completing 44 matches in total across the 2014-15 campaign in which he won the Scottish Premiership and League Cup and was also named the Celtic Young Player of the Year and PFA Scotland Young Player of the Year.

The defender also had a loan spell at Galatasaray, where he played 28 times in total across the 2015-16 campaign, as well as at Sunderland last season.

The eight-times Belgium international is contracted to City until the summer of 2020.
