Chris Wood delivers verdict on Leeds managerial appointment

By Harvey Byrne

Striker star Chris Wood has stated that he believes the signing of manager Thomas Christiansen was a “great appointment” for Leeds.

The Yorkshire giants announced that the 44-year-old would take charge of the prestigious club following the departure of manager Garry Monk in May.

Christiansen is a slight left field capture given that he has either played or managed in England before, but he did help Cypriot giants APOEL win the top-flight in the last campaign.

Now, Wood, who starred under Monk last season has told that he is looking forward to working with the Danish boss while also stating he will then “go from there” with reports linking him with a move to the Premier League this summer.

“It was a great season last season, both personally and for the team. We put Leeds back on the map, which was a great thing for the club,” told Wood, as quoted by the Sky Sports transfer centre (Friday 11.45am).

“We’ve done fantastically well as a team and as a unit. It’s a great appointment of the new manager, an exciting new manager who did well last season. I’m looking forward to seeing what he can offer in pre-season and we go from there.”

If Wood does remain a Leeds player in the next campaign then he will be hoping to continue the same scoring form as he saw under both Monk and coach James Beattie.

The New Zealand international bagged an incredible 27 goals in 44 Championship matches last season and was a key part in the Yorkshire giants finishing in second place.

He also still has two years remaining on his contract at the club and supporters will certainly be hoping he remains upfront.

In other Leeds news, Darragh MacAnthony has stated that he would back this Championship forward to score more goals than Wood.
