Chris Wood: These two Leeds players are likely an old married couple
By Alex Stevens
Chris Wood has named Kyle Bartley and Luke Ayling as the two biggest characters in the Leeds squad.
Wood delivered the tongue-in-cheek comment that the defensive duo behave “like an old married couple” as he gave some insight into the players away from the public eye.
The Championship’s leading scorer with 24 goals is well into his second season at Elland Road and well placed to deliver a verdict on his teammates.
Asked who are the biggest characters in the Leeds squad, Wood told the Sky Sports EFL Weekly podcast, “Bartley and Luke Ayling, probably. The terrible two.
“They’re no longer housemates but they’re very tight. They’re like an old married couple, to be honest. But they’re brilliant and have added so much to the squad, which is good.”

Bartley and Ayling, who both joined Leeds last summer, have been mainstays of Garry Monk’s promotion-chasing side this season.
Centre-back Bartley has started 37 of the Yorkshire giants’ 38 league encounters, while right-back Ayling has started an equally impressive 35 of them.
Bartley is expected to take his place in the centre of defence for Saturday’s Championship encounter against Reading, a match for which Ayling serves the second game of a two-match suspension.
Meanwhile, Wood is in contention to face Reading after his striker partner Souleymane Doukara revealed the New Zealand international has been training since returning early from international duty.
Monk’s team are fourth in the division ahead of the weekend, with a haul of 69 points from 38 matches as they to nail down a top-six finish that will secure a place in the end-of-season play-offs.
In other Leeds transfer news, the club have sealed an out-of-window midfielder transfer.
