Dons manager Derek McInnes has said that there is no chance of Ryan Christie returning to Aberdeen after his loan deal expires.
Christie has enjoyed two successful loan spells with Aberdeen, after first making the move in Janaury 2017.
He returned that summer and stayed for the whole of this season, and in total has amassed an impressive 15 goals and 18 assists in 57 appearances.
However, McInnes has confirmed that Christie is a part of Brendan Rodger’s plans at Celtic next season.
“Celtic made it clear that he has to go back for pre-season,” McInnes said.
“Brendan [Rodgers, manager] said he’s part of their plans going forward, so that for me kills it unless it changes from Celtic’s point of view.
“He’s done himself no harm… what a fantastic boy he has been to work with.
“He’s made a big impression on everybody – supporters and staff and players alike, and if the opportunity ever came along for him to be working with us again, I’m sure we would be keen on that.”
Football Insider verdict:
It will be interesting to see how Christie fits into the Celtic set-up after a solid stint at Aberdeen, but it’s come as a surprise that Rodgers is keen to have him back. Christie has only managed two goals in 13 appearances for Celtic since his move from Inverness in 2015, but he is still only 23 and has all of his best years in front of him. He’ll be excited to be heading back to Celtic, full of confidence after showing that he can score in the top-flight in Scotland. McInness is right, he has tapered off after an impressive start where he scored six goals in 13 games in the 2016/17 season, but the Dons manager would still love to have him at Pittodrie. He’s made the breakthrough into the international team as well, and this could be the season that the midfielder starts to make a name for himself.
