HJK Helsinki sports director Juho Rantala has revealed the Finnish champions stand to gain a slice of any future transfer fee for Rangers striker Alfredo Morelos after a reported £8million bid was made for the Colombian by Chinese side Beijing Renhe.
The Scottish Sun have reported that the Chinese Super League side have submitted the seven-figure offer for the 21-year-old after a blistering start to his Ibrox career with 13 goals in his first 27 appearances.
Morelos only joined the Gers in the summer when he made a £1million move to Ibrox from HJK after bagging 46 goals in 62 appearances in Finland – netting HJK a record transfer fee.
HJK’s sport director confirmed they had inserted a sell-on clause when the Light Blues signed Morelos – which the Scottish Sun reports is around 10% and would land HJK somewhere in the region of £700,000.
“We will have a share of Morelos’ transfer if he moves to China,” Rantala said, as quoted by the Scottish Sun.
The Colombian striker has been the pick of sacked Gers boss Pedro Caixinha’s summer signings after immediately settling into his new environment and hitting the net straight away.
The Gers are running out of time to replace Morelos with the transfer window only a matter of hours away from closing in Scotland – although the Chinese window remains open until February 28th meaning a move for Morelos could still happen over the next month.
Gers boss Graeme Murty currently has Jason Cummings, Eduardo Herrera and Kenny Miller in his squad who could be possible replacements for Morelos if he is sold over the next few weeks.
Football Insider verdict:
Any sell-on fee won’t make any real impact to a proposed deal – if one happens. Rangers will still be walking away with over £6million in profit and HJK will have almost doubled what the Gers paid to sign Morelos in the first place. As the transfer window ticks down it looks more and more unlikely that Rangers will be wanting to move Morelos on unless the offers hit £10million or more. With no names appearing as likely replacements to come in and compete with Cummings, Herrera and Miller, Gers boss Murty will be doing everything he can to keep Morelos a Rangers player until the season ends in May.
