Nigel Clough has predicted Leeds United can win promotion this season after they demolished his Burton Albion team 5-0 at Elland Road on Saturday.
The Yorkshire giants tore Burton apart as they surged to second place in the Championship with a triumph that sent a message to the rest of the league.
Debutant Pierre-Michel Lasogga bagged a double while Kalvin Phillips, Pablo Hernandez and Kemar Roofe also got on the scoresheet in a magnificent performance from the hosts.
Now, Clough, whose father Brian had a very poor stint as manager for Leeds in the past, has boldly claimed that the Yorkshire giants are in strong contention for a return to the Premier League after 13 years.
When asked if promotion is a possibility for Leeds, Clough was quoted by Yorkshire Evening Post reporter Phil Hay on his personal Twitter account as saying: “If they play like that, certainly. They were top class.”

Clough’s Burton are widely expected to battle for survival in the Championship this season and Saturday’s resounding defeat at Leeds put them in the bottom three with the worst goal difference in the division.
Leeds are next in action on Tuesday night when Harry Redknapp’s Birmingham side travel to Elland Road in the league.
Blues will be going into that fixture on the back of having lost 1-0 to Norwich on Saturday.
In other Leeds United news, Pontus Jansson has posted an amusing message on Twitter after the win against Burton.
