Stan Collymore takes dig at possible new Birmingham manager

By Amir Mir

Aston Villa fan Stan Collymore has stated on Twitter that he is “chuckling” at Gianfranco Zola sitting at home learning the words to the Birmingham City anthem Keep Right On.

Zola is currently the strong favourite (1/8 on SkyBet) for the Birmingham manager’s job after Garry Rowett was sacked.

The Blues sacked manager Garry Rowett on Wednesday morning after two years in charge of the Championship club.

This despite the former Burton Albion boss guiding the Midlands side to a top-seven position after 21 games, following their 2-1 win over Ipswich Town on Tuesday night.

In October, Chinese firm Trillion Trophy Asia completed the takeover of the Championship club.

Now, Sky Sports News are claiming that the Blues are keen on Chelsea legend Zola taking up the vacant managerial post.

Following the surprise departure of Rowett, former Villa striker Collymore couldn’t help taking a dig at the club’s Midlands rivals on his personal Twitter account.

Steve Bruce’s side recorded a 1-1 draw against their second city rivals in late October, with Rowett in the St Andrews dugout.

Rowett joined the Blues in October 2014 when he left then League One outfit Burton Albion to replace the sacked Lee Clark.

The former City defender leaves the club having won 42 of his 106 games in charge and guiding them towards the promotion spots this season.

His former side are currently seven in the Championship table on 34 points from 21 games, having recorded nine victories and suffered five losses.

In other Aston Villa news, supporters on Twitter believe their rivals have been crazy to sack Gary Rowett.
