‘Coming home’ – Mateusz Klich responds to Leeds United return plea

Leeds have been told to bring Mateusz Klich back to Elland Road this summer after Atlanta United released their former midfielder.

Klich became a cult hero during Marcelo Bielsa‘s tenure in charge of the Whites and earned “amazing” reviews for his performances as Leeds finished ninth in the Premier League after promotion in 2020–21.

The Poland international’s starts and minutes decreased after Bielsa’s sacking and Jesse Marsch‘s arrival in February 2022, and Klich left Elland Road for DC United in the MLS j ust 11 months later.

The 35-year-old has remained close to his former team-mates however and maintained a strong social media presences among Leeds fans, joining in to celebrate their promotion back to the Premier League.

Leeds fan’s plea to ‘bring Klich home’ sparks reaction

Klich’s move to DC United saw him score seven goals across 70 appearances in the US capital, before a switch to Eastern Conference rivals Atlanta United last December as part of the 2025 MLS Draft.

Atlanta, however, have chosen to ‘waive’ Klich just six months into his contract to effectively release the veteran midway through the European summer transfer window, and a return to Leeds has been mooted.

Leeds have already spent close to £30million to strengthen their midfield this summer with the signings of Sean Longstaff and Anton Stach respectively, but one supporter asked the Whites to re-sign Klich.

Klich shared the fan in question’s post to his Instagram story (24 July), including its message of ‘#BringClichyHome’ and three ‘laughing’ emojis to suggest that any such move is a long way off.

Leeds unlikely to ‘bring back Klich’ amid new transfer priorities

Football Insider Verdict

With Longstaff and Stach over the line, Leeds’ central midfield options include Ethan Ampadu, Brenden Aaronson, Ao Tanaka, Ilia Gruev and the pair, giving Farke the strength in depth he’ll need next season.

Of those six, only Aaronson and potentially Tanaka could be reployed as number tens if Farke utilises a 4-2-3-1 setup next term, but Leeds’ priorities are in other positions like centre-forward and left-wing.

Lucas Perri is all-but through the doors to finally give Leeds the new number one they needed, but signing a new number 10 in the form of Klich looks more unlikely to happen as a priority this summer.
