Report: Aston Villa set to land PL 20-year-old on season-long loan

Manchester United defender Axel Tuanzebe is set to sign a season-long Aston Villa next season, according to a report.

The Sun stated that the 6ft centre-back could be allowed to stay at the Birmingham outfit whether or not they are promoted to the Premier League.

An England U21 international, Tuanzebe has struggled with injuries since he signed for the club in the winter window and has in fact made only five appearances for the Claret and Blues.

His current deal runs out at the end of the season but it looks like he’s set for another year at Villa Park.

Indeed, prior to the weekend’s 4-0 thumping of Ipswich Town, Villa manager Steve Bruce confirmed that the United youngster was unlikely to return to action before the end of the season due to an ankle issue.

But, according to a Manchester United source in The Sun, the Red Devils are happy for the 20-year-old to continue his development at Villa Park: “Axel could stay at Aston Villa. It’s not dependent on promotion at all.

“The club are still undecided but that’s what they’d like him to do. We know Villa are keen on him.

“He is expected to go on the US pre-season tour before Jose makes his final decision over him.”

Football Insider verdict:

With Christopher Samba out of contract at the end of the campaign, and John Terry unlikely to continue for much longer at 37-years-old, the club is in dire need of acquisitions in the heart of the defence. Despite an initial good start at the club, injuries have kept Tuanzebe out of the side and in order to see what he is capable of, a full season with the Championship side would benefit him greatly. The division is awash with talented youngsters who are getting noticed by some of the country’s elite clubs so it would be a great opportunity to push himself into the reckoning at Old Trafford.
