Confirmed: Aston Villa receive fitness boost on 28-year-old ahead of Ipswich clash

By Amir Mir

Neil Taylor has returned to Aston Villa training and is in contention to make his debut against Ipswich on Saturday afternoon.

The club confirmed on their official website on Wednesday afternoon that the 28-year-old is in manager Steve Bruce’s thoughts for the Championship game at Villa Park.

Left-back Taylor made a deadline day move to the Midlands club in January and was due to start in a left wing-back role during the 2-1 defeat at Nottingham Forest last Saturday.

The club report that Bruce’s pre-match plans were affected when he was contacted by the doctor to inform him that Taylor had picked up a sickness bug.

It is said the former Swansea man has since returned and could be one of five new signings that could make their debuts in front of their own supporters.

Striker Scott Hogan, Icelandic international Birkir Bjarnason, midfielder Conor Hourihane and right-back James Bree could all feature having been snapped up last month.

Arsenal academy product Henri Lansbury and goalkeeper Sam Johnstone were the other additions, but they have already made their home debuts.

Villa will be searching for their first win of 2017 when they take on league strugglers Ipswich, with Bruce’s side last picking up three points against Burton on Boxing Day.

Bruce’s side are the only team yet to be beaten at home this term as they will be looking to close an unlikely gap of 13 points on the top six.
