Pontus Jansson’s agent has confirmed that there is major interest in the Leeds star, but the Sweden international has no intention of leaving Elland Road in the near future.
Jansson, 26, signed for Leeds on a permanent deal from Torino for a fee of £3.5million in the summer after impressing while on loan the season before.
The Sun on Sunday (print edition, page 61, 24 December) reported that Premier League club Southampton were interested in a January swoop for the centre-back as a replacement to Virgil van Dijk.
Now, Jansson’s agent, Martin Dahlin, has confirmed that there is interest in his client, but Leeds fans will be happy to know that the Sweden star does not look as though he will be leaving Yorkshire any time soon.
“Interest in Pontus is great, but he is fully focused on addressing Leeds in the Premier League. Otherwise I have no comments on this,” said Dahlin, as quoted by Swedish publication Fotbollskanalen.
Jansson has been a large part in helping Leeds transform themselves from a perennial underperformer into a team that has a real shot of finishing in the Championship play-off spots.
He has made 25 appearances in all competitions this term, scoring two goals in the process, but it’s arguable that his form is yet to reach the heights as it did in 2016/17 when Garry Monk was in the charge of the Yorkshire giants.
The Sweden international will no doubt also have his sights on the World Cup in Russia in the summer.
The Scandinavian nation stunned the world by beating Italy in a two-legged play-off with Jansson on the bench.
In other Leeds United news, this £3million duo may be offloaded on temporary deals this month.
