Newcastle make big transfer statement ahead of summer window, fans will be thrilled

Newcastle have assured a fans forum they do not intend to sell any of their key players in the summer transfer window.
The club revealed they had rejected bids for some members of the squad in January in order to give manager Rafael Benitez the best possible chance of steering them to promotion.
Newcastle chiefs also insisted that plans to strengthen the squad in the next window are already in place after they failed to make any signings during the winter.
The transfer update was delivered when a Newcastle panel, which included managing director Lee Charnley, were asked about summer spending at their latest fan forum.
“The club explained that it does not need, or intend, to sell key players in order to fund arrivals,” a Newcastle report of the meeting stated, as quoted by the Chronicle.

“However it confirmed that any funds received during the summer would contribute to the overall transfer budget.
“The club confirmed that plans were now progressing well for the summer, with manager Rafa Benítez working with Lee Charnley and the scouting team.
“While conversations about specific summer targets and budget are ongoing, the greater focus is presently on pushing for promotion and getting the best from its current players.”
Newcastle also gave supporters some insight into their activity in the last two windows, in which the spending was restricted to last summer following relegation from the Premier League.
“The club emphasised that its activity in the summer transfer window was geared towards creating a strong, balanced squad,” the report added in the Chronicle.
“The club never planned to make wholesale changes during the January window and accordingly, had benefitted from the large volume of summer signings being at the club from the beginning of the season and therefore integrating for much longer.
“The club also disclosed that it had received offers for some of its players in January but had turned them down in order to maintain its current squad.”
Newcastle are in action on Saturday evening as they aim to continue their bid for instant promotion.
Benitez’s side host Huddersfield at St James’ Park hoping to extend their lead at the top of the Championship.
Automatic promotion rivals Brighton were thrashed 3-0 at Nottingham Forest earlier on Saturday in what is considered a major upset.
