Confirmed: Pochettino holds crunch talks over Tottenham controversy
Tottenham manager Mauricio Pochettino has confirmed he has held crunch talks with midfield star Dele Alli to discuss allegations of him cheating by diving while on the pitch.
Having already been booked three times for simulation, twice this season, the controversial issue reared its head once again on Sunday after the 21-year-old fell to the floor under the challenge of Crystal Palace goalkeeper Wayne Hennessey in Spurs’ 1-0 win over the Eagles.
While referee Kevin Friend simply gave a goal kick to the Eagles, and did not hand Alli any punishment, the England star was slammed by both fans and pundits alike for his actions.
Now, with the young midfielder under heavy fire and under constant scrutiny, Pochettino says that there have been brief discussions held with the player over his actions, although did not disclose whether he had himself reprimanded Alli for it.
The Argentinian manager told the Times: “We have every day conversations and meetings about everything and of course after the game we have a short chat about this situation.
“We don’t need to announce we are going to have a meeting to discuss this or that, of course we are focused as it’s our responsibility to help the players in everything.
“I am not worried about this situation as he is a clever player.”
Alli has been a key player to Pochettino since his arrival from MK Dons, going on to make 133 appearances for the club, scoring 41 goals and chipping in with 37 assists, while he has also picked up 22 caps for England.
This season has seen him turn out 37 times across all competitions for Tottenham, netting nine strikes as well as setting his team mates up for a further 13 goals.
