Celtic boss Brendan Rodgers has confirmed that Patrick Roberts will leave the club and return to Manchester City in the summer.
The 21-year-old has spent the last two-and-a-half seasons on loan at the Hoops but Rodgers confirmed that the player has decided he wants to try and make it down south with the Premier League champions.
“We are going to lose young Pat, who will go back to Man City. He’s had a fantastic two-and-a-half years and he’s been unfortunate this season with injury and whatnot. We will lose some players naturally but we have to keep improving the squad,” Rodgers said, as quoted by the club’s official Twitter account.

Roberts was originally signed by former Hoops boss Ronny Deila, but he really came into his own last season, when he played a big part in helping the Bhoys clinch the domestic treble.
His original loan spell ended last summer, but he returned in August for another season, but a serious hamstring injury and the excellent form of James Forrest have limited his appearances.
Football Insider verdict
It’s not a surprise that Roberts wants to return to England and try and succeed in the biggest league in the world. He has done all that he can for the Hoops in his time at the club, and no supporter will begrudge him returning to Manchester City, especially after his performances for the Hoops last season. Perhaps if this season had gone better for him he would have wanted to make the deal permanent, but with his injury issues and lack of game time when fit again it was somewhat inevitable that Roberts would make the decision to leave the club. Still, he did spend a long time with the Hoops, and seemed to really enjoy his time at the club, and it is just a pity about his lack of playing time in his second loan spell with the Bhoys, still, he will go with nothing but the best wishes of the fans after he turned in some great displays for the Hoops.
