Conte ‘very happy’ after ‘massively important’ Tottenham transfer news – pundit

Noel Whelan has claimed Antonio Conte will be “very happy” after completing deadline day deals to bring Juventus duo Dejan Kulusevski and Rodrigo Bentancur to Tottenham.

The former Leeds striker, speaking exclusively to Football Insider, suggested the double signing will have been “massively important” to the Italian.

Tottenham confirmed the double signing of Kulusevski, 21, and Bentancur, 24, yesterday (31 January) after agreements were reached with Conte’s former club Juventus.

A Spurs source told Football Insider on Monday (24 January) that Conte is putting “huge pressure” on Levy and the board to complete four new signings by Monday’s deadline.

Whelan claimed the former Juventus boss will be “very happy”, despite still being “a few players short”.

“It’s massively important for Conte,” he told Football Insider‘s Ewan Kingsbury.

“We’ve seen that he’s let a lot of supposedly quality players go from Tottenham because they couldn’t play the way he wanted.

“He’s gone for these two, Kulusevski and Bentancur, because he’s familiar with them and he knows what he will get from them.

“He wouldn’t bring them to Tottenham if he didn’t think that they would add some real quality to the side.

“I still believe they are a few players short, but it’s a step in the right direction. Conte will be very happy to get those deals done, it gives Spurs a real platform now to build on in the summer.

“There’ll be many more targets on the mind, but they’ve done well by beating Arsenal and West Ham to the punch and getting two players in January.”

Tottenham sit sixth in the Premier League, just two points adrift of fourth-placed Man United.

Kulusevski and Bentancur were Spurs’ only arrivals during the January window.
