Costa could net Leeds ‘£12m’ as source shares update after deal agreed – pundit

Kevin Campbell insists it was only a matter of time before Helder Costa left Leeds United.

The former Arsenal hitman, speaking exclusively to Football Insider, reacted as the attacker joined Valencia on loan.

A Leeds source has told Football Insider that senior figures expect Costa has played his last game for the club.

Valencia have the option to purchase Costa, 27, outright, although there is no obligation.

The attacker has only made two appearances this season with only one of those coming in the Premier League.

The attacker scored five goals and chipped in with five assists in 27 total outings last season but struggled for starts due to the electric form of Jack Harrison and Raphinha.

Campbell insists loaning out Costa was a smart move as Dan James came in to replace him straight away.

“It was just a matter of time,” Campbell told Football Insider assistant editor Dylan Childs.

“That’s something where Bielsa will have realised he’s not quite what he wants.

“So you look to move him on and you wish him well, then you bring someone else in and they have done that.

“I think it’s a smart transfer by Leeds. If they get £10million from him they will be happy.

“They just have to see how he does, maybe he can get it up to £11million or £12million.”

Leeds United

Leeds signed James on deadline day, two years after his first attempted move to Elland Road broke down at the last second.

He could make his Whites debut after the international break when his new side faces Liverpool.
